MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway Women's Volleyball hosts Georgetown College on Tuesday night inside Marshall Gymnasium for its home opener.
The Eagles opened their season over the weekend, dropping four matches, but look to change that against Georgetown. Head-to-head, the Eagles have won the previous three matchups against the Tigers. Last season, the contest went back and forth. Georgetown won the first set before the teams traded set victories until Midway won the deciding fifth set, 15-13.
Multiple returners who made an impact in last season's matchup will be back for the Eagles on Tuesday. Ava Benner led Midway with 11 kills. Aaliyah Lawler (4), Aubry Kamholz (3) and Danica Clark (3) each recorded multiple service aces. Blair Riney and Kamholz each recorded seven digs, while Benner added six.
Allie McClanahan had a strong opening weekend, leading Midway with 22 kills. Mayson Delong recorded 20 kills, while Alyssa Medeiros added 19. Another newcomer, Mayme Powell, had a standout weekend with 55 assists at setter, while Marlee Laycock recorded a team-high 44 digs. Morgan Broderick also made an impact at the net, recording 10 blocks over the weekend.
Georgetown (Ky.) enters the contest 1-1 on the young season. The Tigers fell to Union Commonwealth 3-1 before defeating River States Conference foe Kentucky Christian 3-0. Through two matches, Giara Ferrari leads the Tigers' attack with 17 kills. Reagan Miller has dished out 32 assists, while Paula Rueda leads the defensive effort with 21 digs.
Both teams are under the direction of new head coaches, as Sam Young leads the Eagles and J.P. Rader leads the Tigers.
