MIDWAY, Ky. - Two second-half goals lifted Midway men's soccer to its first victory of the 2026 season as the Eagles rallied past Transylvania 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Midway Turf Field.
Midway (1-1-2) entered the halftime break trailing by a goal before Martin Escobar and Miles Ezell each found the back of the net in the final 22 minutes to complete the comeback.
Transylvania controlled much of the possession in the opening half, but Midway goalkeeper Landon Sorrell kept the Eagles within striking distance.
Sorrell made his first save in the 17th minute, denying Sam Dodds to keep the contest scoreless. Midway produced its first shot on goal in the 35th minute when Elijah Orren tested Transylvania goalkeeper Santiago Hamburger.
The Pioneers eventually broke through just before halftime.
Sorrell denied Konrad Polit in the 44th minute, but Tanner Robertson found the rebound and put it away to give Transylvania a 1-0 advantage with 1:37 remaining in the opening half.
The Pioneers nearly doubled their advantage early in the second half when Stephane Bebe's header struck the post in the 53rd minute. Sorrell was called upon again less than a minute later and denied Gus Dickman to keep the deficit at one.
Midway's breakthrough finally came in the 69th minute.
Saleh Ekuchi put an attempt on frame that was saved by Hamburger, but Escobar was there to finish the opportunity and level the contest at 1-1. The goal was the first of the season for Escobar.
With the match entering its final minutes, the Eagles struck again.
In the 85th minute, Ekuchi played a role in another Midway goal, finding Ezell for the go-ahead tally. Ezell buried the opportunity for his first goal of the campaign, giving Midway a 2-1 advantage with 5:23 remaining.
Transylvania didn't go quietly.
Sorrell made a save just 41 seconds after the go-ahead goal before coming up with another stop against Dickman in the 89th minute to preserve the one-goal advantage and secure Midway's first victory of the season.
Despite being outshot 22-10, the Eagles made their opportunities count. Four of Midway's 10 attempts were on frame, while Transylvania put eight of its 22 shots on goal.
Ekuchi finished the afternoon with two assists, playing a role in both Midway goals. Escobar and Ezell each scored their first goal of the season, while Sorrell finished with seven saves and allowed just one goal in his 90 minutes between the posts.
Sorrell earns the victory making seven saves and now has a 1-1-1 record.
The victory improves Midway to 1-2-1 on the season, while Transylvania falls to 3-2.
