Eagles Force 9 Turnovers in Blowout Win

QUINCY, Ill. -- The Eagles forced nine turnovers as they defeated Quincy 65-12 at QU Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Midway's (3-0) defense totaled seven interceptions in the contest. Three of them were returned for pick-sixes. Keegan Hill tallied two of them. Hill opened up the Eagles scoring in the first five minutes with an interception taken back 30 yards. He then topped that off with another pick-six early in the fourth quarter deep in the Hawks end of the field, totaling nine yards the other way.

Israel Caldwell had the other pick-six. With 13 minutes left in the first half, Caldwell returned it for 31 yards. He also recovered a fumble on the drive before, putting the Eagles at Quincy's (1-2) 34-yard line.

The Eagles eclipsed 50 points for the second straight week.

Christian Carter threw for 317 yards on 10 completions (31.7 avg.), while tossing three touchdowns. Carter's longest was an 85-yard touchdown completion to a Quincy Barber who slipped through the Hawks defense on a fly route. This put the Eagles up 11 points with five minutes left in the first quarter.

Barber had a game-high 109 receiving yards in the game. His only two receptions were touchdowns, averaging 54.5 yards per reception. His second touchdown reception came early in the third quarter. It was a 24-yard reception from Carter off a roll out to his right. A 45-yard Ayden Bauwens completion into hurry-up offense set the score up.

The Hawks only touchdown came on a fourth-and-goal conversion with 6:03 left in the third quarter. Donnell Packer punched it right up the middle from one yard out. They missed their 2-point conversion attempt.

The Eagles defense once again dominated opposing offenses. They had a season-high six sacks. Trenton Leach, Justin Ball and Austin Johnson led the way with 1.5 sacks each.

Trenton Everett continued his hot start to the season, having a game-high six solo tackles. He also had the first interception of the game, coming on the Hawks first drive of the game. He took it back 17 yards to Quincy's 23-yard line. Byron Wallace had a game-high 11 total tackles.

Hayden Cockrell went one-for-one on field goals, converting a 26-yard field goal late in the first half to put the Eagles up 31-6.

The Hawks first red zone trip ended in a Jensen Laughlin 32-yard field goal. Laughlin went two-for-two on his field goal attempts, with his long coming from 39 yards out.

The Eagles go into their bye week with a 3-0 record before they go back on the road to play their second game of the season against Bellarmine on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
