Kokomo, Ind. – The Midway University volleyball team saw their season come to an end on Saturday when they traveled to Kokomo, Ind. for their final River States Conference crossover.
In their first match of the day, the Eagles (7-29, 0-16 RSC) would take on Cincinnati Christian (Ohio). Cincinnati Christian (17-9, 9-6 RSC) got the best of the Eagles by coming away with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-16 and 25-15).
Then in their regular season finale, Midway would take on the host IU Kokomo. The Cougars (23-7, 13-3 RSC) would hand the Eagles their second loss of the day as they won 3-0 (25-11, 25-17 and 25-13).
Cincinnati Christian 3, Midway 0
The Eagles were unable to slow down the Cincinnati Christian offensive attack as CCU hit .261 for the match, while Midway finished with a .059 hitting clip.
Leading the way for the Eagles was junior, Ricky Bowers (Long Beach, Calif.). Bowers finished the match with nine kills in 22 swings for a .273 hitting percentage. She also added a game-high four solo blocks.
Splitting time running the offense was Molly O'Bryan (Cox's Creek, Ky.) and Ashley Sherrard (Louisville, Ky.). O'Bryan finished the match with 11 assists, while Sherrard added six.
Sophomore libero, Hannah Payne (Louisville, Ky.) led the defensive effort for the Eagles. Payne closed the match out with a game-high 16 digs. Katie Roush (Malta, Ill.) added nine digs, while Emmalee Fleener (Louisville, Ky.) finished with seven.
IU Kokomo 3, Midway 0
The IU Kokomo defense stifled the Midway offense as they held the Eagles to a .000 hitting percentage. The Cougars, on the other hand, finished the match on a .382 attacking percentage.
Leading the way on offense was the duo of Roush and Bowers. The duo accounted for 12 of the team's 22 kills. Roush and Bowers each finished the match with six kills apiece.
Guiding the offense and combining for 19 of the Eagles' 22 assists was O'Bryan and Courtney George (Louisville, Ky.). O'Bryan led the way and finished with 12 assists, while George added seven assists.
The defensive effort was once again led by Payne. Payne tied the match-high with 13 digs. Four other Eagles finished the match with four digs apiece.
