MIDWAY, Ky. – Midway women's volleyball returns to the friendly confines of Marshall Gymnasium on Tuesday night when the Eagles welcome Campbellsville University for a non-conference matchup. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Eagles (2-9) return home after playing their last six matches away from Midway. Tuesday will mark their first appearance inside Marshall Gymnasium since a five-set battle against Georgetown on Aug. 25.
Midway enters the matchup having won two of its last five contests. The Eagles picked up their first victory of the season with a four-set win over Michigan-Dearborn before adding a straight-set victory over Wright State-Lake on Friday at the Racer Rumble.
Freshman Allie McClanahan has led the Midway attack through the first 11 matches of the season. The Georgetown, Kentucky native has recorded a team-high 93 kills and averages 2.33 kills per set. Mayson Delong follows with 65 kills, while Alyssa Medeiros has added 64 and Nyla Gaines has 59.
Mayme Powell and Peyton Osteen have split the setting duties for the Eagles. Powell leads Midway with 179 assists, while Osteen has dished out 131. Powell has also made an impact from the service line, leading the Eagles with 16 aces.
Defensively, Blair Riney leads the way with 116 digs and a 2.90 digs-per-set average. Marlee Laycock has collected 95 digs, while Aubry Kamholz has added 83. At the net, Morgan Broderick leads Midway with 18 total blocks, while Delong has recorded 16.
Scouting Campbellsville
Campbellsville comes to Midway sporting an 11-4 record and has won five of its last seven matches.
The Tigers are coming off a challenging weekend in which they faced No. 14 Taylor and IU East before closing the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Saint Xavier. Campbellsville won the opening two sets of that match 25-15 and 25-12 before closing out the victory in four.
Campbellsville has found success with a balanced offensive attack, averaging 12.92 kills per set while hitting .221 as a team. The Tigers have also been a force at the net, recording 108.5 total blocks through their first 15 matches.
Elif Akcivi leads the Tigers with 167 kills and averages 2.74 per set. Riley Thorne is close behind with 157 kills and 39 total blocks, while Libby Erwin has contributed 142 kills. Brooke Hager has been Campbellsville's biggest presence at the net, recording 50 total blocks while hitting .333 with 101 kills.
Kati Vest directs the Campbellsville offense and has dished out 577 assists while averaging 9.46 per set. Celestina Retumban anchors the back row with a team-high 247 digs and also leads the Tigers from the service line with 30 aces.
