MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a big road win at Asbury (Ky.) on Tuesday in Wilmore, the Midway University women's volleyball team put their five-match win streak on the line on Friday night when they hosted Point Park (Pa.) inside Marshall Gymnasium.
The Eagles put together one their better offensive performances during their win streak as they tallied 17 more kills than the Pioneers en route to the 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) pushing their win streak to six.
Following the win – which was Midway's first-ever victory against Point Park – the Eagles improve to 6-1 overall, while they remain perfect in league play at 4-0. They'll look to push their win streak to seven on Saturday when they host Carlow (Pa.).
Midway's offense put together a solid performance as they recorded 38 kills in 102 swings for a .206 hitting clip. The Pioneers – who fall to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in RSC play with the loss – finished with just 21 kills, while they committed 17 errors in 111 attempts for a .036 hitting clip.
The Eagles fired on all cylinders in the opening set sprinting to an 11-3 advantage behind the strong play of Brooke Trompler. The sophomore from Campton, Ky. had five kills early as she finished with seven in the set leading Midway to the 25-20 opening set win.
Midway's offense really got it rolling in the second stanza as they recorded 12 kills, while committing just two miscues in 28 swings for a .357 hitting clip. Trompler added three more kills including the one at set point which sealed the 25-17 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was a different story as it was nip-and-tuck throughout. Point Park held a 10-5 lead early, but a 7-2 run by the home team highlighted by back-to-back kills from Alysha Tullar (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) tied the set at 12 apiece.
The next few points featured five more ties, but the final tie came after Point Park took a brief 18-17 lead. A kill from Tullar tied the set at 18 apiece, while Raegan Stevens (Ashland, Ky.) added another giving the Eagles the lead for good. Tullar finished off the third set with her sixth kill of the frame securing the 25-21 win in the set and a 3-0 win overall.
Trompler and Tullar combined for 19 kills finishing with 10 and nine, respectively. Trompler chipped in 14 digs, while Tullar added four. Tori Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Raegan Stevens combined for 10 kills and just one error in 24 attempts.
Madi Eberst (Chillicothe, Ohio) nearly carded a double-double with 21 assists and eight digs, while Annessa Roysdon (Monticello, Ky.) added eight kills and eight digs. Junior libero, Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with a match-high 19 digs.
The Eagles now turn their attention to Saturday's matchup with Carlow which gets underway at noon ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
