Mighty Oaks claim 4-1 win over Men's Soccer behind strong second half

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- Following a road loss at No. 18 Rio Grande (Ohio) in their last outing, the Midway men's soccer team packed their bags and headed to Oakland City (Ind.) on Thursday in a River States Conference matchup.

Each team scored one goal each in the opening half, but the Mighty Oaks put together a strong second half scoring three goals en route to the 4-1 victory.

With the loss, Tim Wolz's squad drops to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in league play, while Oakland City improves to 7-3-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win.

It was a tough outing for Midway's offense as they recorded just two shots as both shots were on frame. Oakland City, meanwhile, carded 20 shots overall with 16 coming on goal.

The Mighty Oaks scored first in the eighth minute coming off the foot of Simon Knuewe as they claimed the early 1-0 lead. Following a couple of saves from Hunter Caudill (Winchester, Ky.) to keep the deficit at one, the Eagles equalized in the 29th minute.

The goal for the Blue and Gold came from Unaiz Shajani (Nairobi, Kenya) who scored his 14th marker of the season on an unassisted tally that knotted the game at one goal apiece.

The game remained that way until intermission, but soon after halftime the Mighty Oaks netted three second half goals to claim the 4-1 victory. The markers for the home team came in the 54th, 64th, and 72nd minutes.

The other shot for the visitors came from Thomas Sidebottom (Bardstown, Ky.).

Hunter Caudill was delt the loss as he made 11 saves in the loss.

Midway is now scheduled to return to action on Thursday (Oct. 21) when they host Carlow (Pa.). Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at the Midway Soccer Field.
