Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a string of three consecutive road losses, the Midway University men's soccer team snapped their three-game skid on Thursday (Oct. 21) with a dominating win over Carlow (Pa.) at the Midway Soccer Field.
The Blue and Gold scored early and often netting five goals in the first half and eight in the second en route to claiming a 13-1 victory over the Celtics.
The 13 goals are a new program record for Tim Wolz's squad as they improve to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in River States Conference play. Carlow, meanwhile, drops to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in league play.
It didn't take the Eagles long to find the back of the net as they scored in the second minute just a minute and 23 seconds into the match. They added another in the third minute and then made it 3-0 following a goal in the sixth minute.
Unaiz Shajani (Nairobi, Kenya) scored the first and third goal with Florene Twahirwa (Lexington, Ky.). Shajani assisted on Twahirwa's goal, while Kirk Aitken (Werribee, Australia) had the assist on the game's first goal.
The Eagles added two more markers in the 17th and 23rd minutes as they would take a 5-0 advantage into the locker room. Aitken found Evan Sakamaki (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) who scored the fourth goal, while Thomas Sidebottom (Bardstown, Ky.) made it 5-0 with an unassisted tally.
Both Shajani and Sidebottom would complete their respective hat tricks in the opening 13 minutes of the second half. Aitken connected with Shajani to make it 6-0 in the 50th minute before Shajani tallied his second assist when Sidebottom pushed it to 7-0 in the 52nd minute.
Sidebottom then completed the second hat trick of his career when he took a pass from Jacob Smith (Frankfort, Ky.) and scored in the 58th minute.
Chukwuma Soronnadi (London, England) scored off an assist from Bryce Brockman (Louisville, Ky.) iun the 65th minute before assisting on a goal by Patrick Cleary Jr. (Louisville, Ky.) who scored in the 67th minute. Cleary Jr. scored again in the 69th minute to make it 11-0.
Capping off the scoring for the Eagles was Owen Clements (Frankfort, Ky.) and Bryce Brockman who scored in the 74th and 77th minutes, respectively. Clements' tally was an unassisted marker, while Brockman took a pass from Henry Alvor (Versailles, Ky.).
Carlow scored in the 83rd minute, but Midway walked away with the 13-1 victory. Hunter Caudill (Winchester, Ky.) picked up the win making four saves in his 56:06 in goal, while Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) played the final 31:54 in goal making one save.
The Eagles are now scheduled to play their home finale on Saturday (Oct. 23) when they host Point Park (Pa.) for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at the Midway Soccer Field.
