Box Score BECKLEY, W. Va. -- After suffering a non-conference defeat to Asbury (Ky.) earlier this week, the Midway men's soccer team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday with a River States Conference matchup with West Virginia Tech.
The Eagles found themselves in an uphill battle with the Golden Bears – who are currently 'receiving votes' in the latest coaches' poll – as the home team scored two in the opening frame before scoring four more in the second to cruise to the 6-0 victory.
The loss unfortunately ends the season for Tim Wolz's club as they wrap up the season with a 7-8 mark overall and a 3-6 record in River States Conference play.
West Virginia Tech – who improves to 9-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in league play with the win – got the scoring started in the 16th minute before extended the lead to 2-0 with another marker in the 23rd minute.
The Golden Bears then added four more tallies in the second half as they scored in the 58th, 64th, 70th, and 79th minutes as they went on to win 6-0. They finished the contest holding a 31-3 edge in shots and a 16-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Florene Twahirwa (Lexington, Ky.), Thomas Sidebottom (Bardstown, Ky.), and Patrick Cleary Jr. (Louisville, Ky.) all had one shot apiece to account for Midway's three shots in the loss.
Hunter Caudill (Winchester, Ky.) got the start and played 72:31 in goal making seven saves, while Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) played the final 17:29 in goal and made two saves.
Midway will now turn their attention to the offseason as they get set to begin preparing for the 2022 season.
