Box Score BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- For the third time in the last four seasons, the Midway University men's soccer team opened their season with a road trip to Barbourville, Ky. to battle the Union College (Ky.) Bulldogs at Williamson Stadium.
It was a tough start to the season for the Blue and Gold as the Bulldogs peppered the Midway defense with 41 shots, 21 of which were on frame, before cruising to a 7-0 victory.
The Eagles fall to 0-1 on the season, while Union collects their first win of the season improving to 1-0-1 overall. The Bulldogs were coming off a scoreless draw to No. 16 George Gwinnett on Tuesday (Aug. 24).
Union carded three first half goals and held a 3-0 lead at intermission as they recorded goals in the 14th, 24th and 44th minutes of the contest. Midway failed to get a shot off in the opening 45 minutes, while Union got off 23 shots in the opening frame.
The Eagles got their first shot of the game early in the first half in the 54th minute off the foot of Kirk Aitken (Werribee, Australia), but his shot was stopped by the Union goalkeeper. Aitken took another shot in the 63rd minute, but it was blocked by a Bulldog defender.
Union, meanwhile, added to their lead scoring goals in the 65th, 66th, 78th and 86th minutes as they cruised to their first victory of the season.
Hunter Caudill (Winchester, Ky.) did his best in goal for the Eagles making 14 saves in the loss.
Tim Wolz's squad will have a quick turnaround as they're scheduled to return to the pitch on Monday (Aug. 30) when they travel to Thomas More (Ky.). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Crestview Hills.
