MIDWAY, Ky. -- The River States Conference office announced on Monday, September 13, that Unaiz Shajani had been named the RSC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his performance on the pitch the week of Sept. 6-12.
The weekly honor is the first of the season for Shajani, while it is the first of his career. It also marks the first time since the 2017 season, that a Midway player has been named the Offensive Player of the Week.
In just his second game in a Midway uniform, the freshman from Nairobi, Kenya accomplished a feat that has only been done once in the history of the Midway men's soccer program.
In Midway's 7-1 victory over Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), Shajani scored a season and a career-high four goals to help lead the Eagles to the victory. He netted two in the first half as Midway led 3-1 at intermission and then added two more in the second to help seal the 7-1 victory.
The last time a player scored four goals in a single contest was back in the 2017 season when Brad Wilson netted four goals in a 6-2 win over Ohio Christian on October 26.
As a team, the Eagles scored seven goals in the win over the Lions which was the most goals in a single game since the 2016 team scored eight goals in an 8-0 win over Pikeville (Ky.) on Sept. 22.
Following the win, Midway improves to 1-1 on the season as they're set to open a three-game homestand on Tuesday (Sept. 14) when they host Pikeville (Ky.) at 3:30 p.m. ET.
