Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. –The Midway University men's soccer team concluded its two-game River States Conference homestand on Saturday when it faced off with No. 25 ranked Rio Grande (Ohio). Thanks to a nine-goal first half, the RedStorm picked up a 14-0 victory over the Eagles.
With the loss, Midway has a 0-9-0 record overall and are 0-3-0 in the RSC while the RedStorm improve to 6-3-1 and a conference mark of 2-0-0.
Rio Grande opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a goal but were held scoreless for the next 18 minutes by the Midway defense. After a goal in the 22nd minute, the RedStorm extend their advantage to 3-0 in the 27th minute. Rio Grande then closed out the opening stanza with six goals in the final 13 minutes.
In the second half, the RedStorm added tallies in the 57th, 64th, 80th, 86th and 89th minutes to earn the 14-0 win.
For the game, Rio Grande outshot the Eagles 35-1. In the nets, Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) recorded five saves in the first 45 minutes while Bryson Lynch (Evansville, Ind.) recorded seven saves for Midway in the second half.
Midway men's soccer opens a three-game road trip on Thursday, October 6 when it faces off with Point Park University (Pa.). Opening kickoff against the Pioneers is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
