Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. – The Midway University men's soccer team celebrated its Senior Day on Saturday when it welcomed Fisk University (Tenn.) to the Midway Soccer Field. Behind a two-goal first half from Patrick Cleary Jr. (Louisville, Ky.) and a pair of goals by Patient Tuyishime (Lexington, Ky.) the Eagles picked up their first win of the season by a score of 5-0.
With the win, Midway improves to 1-14-0 overall while the Bulldogs fall to 1-5 for the season.
It didn't take long for the Eagle offense to find the back of the net as Cleary scored his first of the day off an assist from Jacob Smith (Frankfort, Ky.) in the second minute. Cleary doubled his total in the 20th minute when he scored on an unassisted effort.
The quick starts continued in the second stanza as Tuyishime scored his first of the day with the assist courtesy of Jared Bastin (Somerset, Ky.) in the 48th minute. In the 56th minute, Tuyishime scored his second of the day with the helper coming from Florene Twahirwa (Lexington, Ky.). The Eagles closed out the scoring in the 87th minute when Henry Alvor (Versailles, Ky.) scored an unassisted goal.
For the contest, Midway outshot the Bulldogs 28-9. In goal, Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) recorded three saves for Midway while picking up his first win and shutout of the season.
Midway men's soccer will close out River States Conference play on Thursday, October 27 when it plays Ohio Christian. Opening kickoff against the Trailblazers is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Circleville, Ohio.
