Box Score CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – The Midway University men's soccer team wrapped up its 2022 River States Conference campaign on Tuesday afternoon when it traveled to Circleville, Ohio to match up against Ohio Christian University. Thanks to an early first half goal along with a pair in the second half, the Eagles picked up a 3-0 victory.
With the win, Midway improves to 2-14-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the RSC while the Trailblazers fall to 1-15-0 for the season and 1-7-0 in the RSC.
Midway jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Patient Tuyishime (Lexington, Ky.) headed the ball into the back of the net for his third goal of the year off an assist from Florene Twahirwa (Lexington, Ky.). Neither team found the back of the net again in the opening stanza even though the Eagles held an 8-5 advantage in shots along with a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Eagles doubled their advantage in the 61st minute when Maxston Collins (Louisville, Ky.) netted his first goal of the campaign following a long run down the right wing. The Eagles closed out the scoring in the 82nd minute when Twahirwa broke down the left flank and slotted the ball past the Trailblazers goalie for his second goal of the season.
For the contest, Midway outshot the Trailblazers 16-7 and was led by the trio of Twahirwa, Tuyishime and Collins who each scored in the game. In the nets, Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) recorded five saves for Midway while picking up his second win and shutout of the season.
Midway men's soccer will seek to finish its 2022 season on a three-game winning streak on Tuesday, November 1 when it hosts Asbury (Ky.). Opening kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Midway Soccer Field.
