FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Following their final road trip of the season last week, the Midway sprint football team returned to Frankfort, Ky. and Benny Watkins Field on Saturday (Oct. 29) when they hosted Quincy (Ill.) in their regular-season finale.
The Hawks held a 16-0 lead after the first quarter and took a 24-3 lead into the locker room as they added to their lead in the second half before cruising to the 40-3 victory.
With the loss, the Eagles finish the regular season with an 0-6 mark overall and an 0-5 mark in Midwest Sprint Football League play. The Hawks, meanwhile, improve to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in MSFL play with the win.
It was a tough night for the Midway offensive attack as they managed to gain just 118 yards of total offense. Quincy picked up 323 yards of total offense including 189 yards through the air and 134 yards on the ground.
The Hawks twice found the endzone in the opening quarter as they tacked on a 30-yard field goal in the final couple of minutes to take a 16-0 lead entering the second. The visitors then added another touchdown early in the second when they extended their lead to 23-0.
The Eagles finally got on the board midway through the second quarter following a 10-play, 60-yard drive. Sean Richardson (Collbran, Colo.) capped the drive with a 30-yard field goal that cut the deficit to 23-3.
Midway found themselves driving in the final moments of the second stanza, but the 12-play drive came up short as they faced a 23-3 deficit at halftime. Unfortunately for the home team, they wouldn't be able to get anything going in the second half as they suffered a 40-3 defeat.
DJ Palmer (Pelham, Ga.) led the offensive attack gaining 76 yards through the air and 52 yards on the ground. Kaden Parraz (Petersburg, Texas) rushed for 15 yards, while he caught three passes for a team-high 16 yards.
Zaiquan Pinkard (Amarillo, Texas) led the defensive effort with 13 total tackles including one tackle for loss. Keston Dupin (Miami, Texas) and Tristian Berrios (Clarksville, Tenn.), meanwhile, each recorded 10 tackles in the loss.
Midway – who earned the No. 6 seed in the MSFL Playoffs – will travel to St. Louis, Mo. on Saturday (Nov. 5) when they take on Fontbonne (Mo.) at 2 p.m. ET.
