Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. –The Midway University men's soccer team played its second consecutive game in Pittsburgh on Saturday when it faced off with Carlow (Pa.) in River States Conference play. Despite a pair of goals from Jacob Smith (Frankfort, Ky.), the Celtics picked up a 3-2 victory over the Eagles.
With the loss, Midway stands at 0-11-0 overall and are 0-5-0 in the RSC while the Celtics improve to 2-9-1 and a conference mark of 1-6-0.
The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Smith scored his fifth of the season on an unassisted effort. The Celtics found an equalizer in the 40th minute to even the game at 1-1.
In the 73rd minute, the Celtics claimed a 2-1 lead when they pounced on a rebound following a blocked shot. In the 81st, Smith scored his second of the game on a penalty kick to even the game once again. Unfortunately, Carlow scored right off the ensuing kickoff to earn the 3-2 victory.
For the contest, Midway outshot the Celtics 29-20 and were led offensively by Smith's pair of goals. In goal, Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) recorded seven saves for Midway.
Midway men's soccer concludes its three-game RSC road trip on Thursday, October 13 when it plays IU East (Ind.). Opening kickoff against the Pioneers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Richmond, Indiana.
