ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Midway sprint football team hit the field for the final time in their inaugural season on Saturday (Nov. 5) when they battled Fontbonne (Mo.) in their Midwest Sprint Football League Playoff matchup.
It was an offensive struggle as neither team found the endzone in the opening three quarters of the game. In their opening drive of the fourth quarter, the Griffins orchestrated a 7-play, 49-yard drive that found the endzone as they took a 6-0 advantage.
Midway would have a couple of possessions to answer, but they were unable to do so as Fontbonne held on for the 6-0 victory.
With the loss, the Eagles finish their season at 0-7 overall, while the Griffins wrap up the 2022 campaign with a 2-5 mark overall.

Midway's defense, meanwhile, stepped up to the challenge after giving up 419 yards of total offense to the Griffins in their first meeting on Oct. 15. The first half saw the Eagles force six punts as the two squads headed to the locker room following a scoreless first half.
The Eagles went on an 11-play, 61-yard drive to open the third quarter, but the Griffins got an interception after Midway made it to the Fontbonne 17-yardline. After forcing another three-and-out, the Blue and Gold once again had a promising drive brewing.
Facing a 4th and goal on the Fontbonne 10-yardline, the Eagles elected to go for the field goal. The 27-yard field goal, however, was blocked as the game remained scoreless.
After Fontbonne grabbed an interception, they started with the ball on the Midway 49-yardline to begin the final quarter. The Griffins went on a 7-play, 49-yard drive that resulted in a 10-yard touchdown scamper by Darrion White. White's touchdown proved to be the difference as the Griffins held on for the 6-0 victory.
