Four Midway grapplers compete in NAIA Wrestling National Championship

WICHITA, Kans. -- The Midway wrestling team wrapped up their season on Friday (March 4) when they competed on the national stage in Wichita, Kans. at the NAIA Wrestling National Championship.

Midway's four grapplers – Kyler Adams, Anthony Caruso, Brent Hudgins, and Isaiah McDougal – were all making their first-ever appearance at the NAIA National Championship as they helped Midway compile three team points on the day.

Adams, a freshman from Wetumpka, Ala., and Caruso, a sophomore from Rehoboth, Del., each competed in the 141-weight class where they each won their first-round matchups.

Adams picked up a second period pin to defeat Noah Styskal of Morningside (Iowa), while Caruso won a 4-3 decision over Isaiah Vizcarrondo of Williams Baptist (Ark.). Unfortunately for the duo, they lost their next two matches seeing their seasons come to an end.

Hudgins, a sophomore from Cynthiana, Ky., and McDougal, a junior from Madison, Ala., also represented Midway at 157 and 197, respectively. Unfortunately for Hudgins and McDougal, they each had tough draws and ultimately came up short at the end of the day.

All four grapplers are set to return to Midway next season as they'll look to return to the NAIA National Championship in 2023.
