PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Midway University men's soccer team continued its season opening road-trip Wednesday when it traveled to Pikeville, Kentucky to take on the University of Pikeville. Despite a pair of goals from sophomore Jacob Pollak (Buckner, Ky.) the Eagles suffered a 5-3 defeat to the Bears.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-2-0 on the young season while Pikeville improves to 2-0-0 for the campaign.

The Eagles got on the board first when Jacob Smith (Frankfort, Ky.) scored his second goal of the season when he converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute. Unfortunately, the hosts were able to find an equalizer in the 41st minute and the two teams entered the locker room tied at one.

The host Bears claimed their first lead of the afternoon with a goal in the 51st minute and doubled their advantage with a strike in the 56th minute. The edge became 4-1 in the 68th minute, but Midway was able to climb a step closer when Pollak notched his first goal of the season in the 70th minute off an assist from Tomas Sarmiento (Cordoba, Argentina).

Pikeville took only 20 seconds to regain a three-goal lead with a tally in the 71st minute. Midway was able to creep closer when Pollak scored his second of the afternoon in the 89th minute with the helper coming from Jarred Bastin (Somerset, Ky.). Unfortunately, the Eagles ran out of time and suffered a 5-3 defeat.

For the contest, Pikeville outshot the Eagles 19-16. Pollak led Midway on the offensive half of the field with his first two goals of the year. In between the pipes, Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) recorded six saves.

Midway University men's soccer will return to action on Saturday, September 3 when it travels to Crestview Hills, to face off with Thomas More (Ky.). Opening kickoff with the Saints is scheduled for 1 p.m.
