Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. – The Midway University men's soccer team continued its three-game homestand on Thursday when it hosted Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). Despite a pair of goals from Jacob Smith (Frankfort, Ky.), the visiting Lions picked up a 6-2 victory over the Eagles.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-5-0 on the year while Freed-Hardeman improves to 4-1-0.
In the 12th minute, the visitors took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick but the Eagles answered right back when Smith scored the first of his two goals off a long ball from Tom Ramsay-Lopez (Coventry, England) in the 13th minute.
Ramsay-Lopez again found Smith in behind the Lion defense and the Blue and Gold held a 2-1 lead in the 17th minute. Freed-Hardeman scored an equalizer in the 23rd minute and then added another pair of goals in rapid succession to close out the opening half scoring.
The guests extended their lead to 5-2 with a goal in the 51st minute and then closed out the afternoon with a goal in the 61st minute.
For the contest, the Eagles were outshot 17-5. In between the pipes, Tyler Glass (Louisville, Ky.) made two saves.
Midway men's soccer will close out its current homestand on Saturday, September 17 when it hosts Shawnee State (Ohio). Opening kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. at the Midway Soccer Field.
