Eagles Open RSC Play With 1-0 Loss to Pomeroys

WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –The Midway University men's soccer team entered River States Conference play on Saturday when it played against St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.). Despite a six-save effort by goalie Bryson Lynch (Evansville, Ind.), the Pomeroys claimed the 1-0 victory.

With the loss, Midway has earned a 0-7-0 record overall and 0-1-0 in the RSC while the Pomeroys improve to 1-2-0 and a conference mark of 1-1-0.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Pomeroys continued to apply pressure on the Eagles defense until they finally broke through with a goal in the 71st minute. Even with a valiant effort, Midway could not find an equalizing goal and the game ended with St. Mary-of-the-Woods picking up the 1-0 victory.

For the game, the Pomeroys outshot Midway 18-2.  In goal, Lynch recorded six saves in the contest.

Midway men's soccer returns home on Thursday, September 29 when it hosts West Virginia Tech. Opening kickoff against the Golden Bears is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Midway Soccer Field.
