MIDWAY, Ky. -- Midway University has announced the hiring of Jeff Armstrong as the head coach of the Midway University men's and women's swimming teams.
A native of Kentucky, Armstrong brings over 20 years of coaching experience to Midway where he becomes the second head coach in program history after the program's inception in 2020-21.
"I am thankful to Midway University for this wonderful opportunity, as well as my friends and family," noted Armstrong. "I'm excited to bring my coaching style to Midway swimming and I'm ready to get to campus and get to work. Go Eagles!"
Armstrong returns to the Bluegrass following a stint as the head coach and executive director of the Houston Cougar Aquatic Sports, also knowns as COOGS, in Houston, Texas.
Before moving to Houston, he spent 15 years in Evergreen, Colorado where he was the head coach of the Jeffco Hurricanes. Armstrong coached several Bronze and Silver Medal Teams and was awarded the Colorado Coach of the Year in 2010. He also coached a U.S. Olympic Trials semifinalist during his time with the Hurricanes.
He also spent two years in Phoenix, Arizona from 2005-07 where he was the Senior Assistant Coach at Phoenix Swim Club.
Prior to joining the club in Phoenix, Armstrong was the Head Age Group Coach of Williamsburg Aquatic Club (WAC) in Virginia. In 2005, his final year with WAC, he finished runner-up in Virginia's Age Group Coach of the Year voting.
Armstrong began his coaching career at Highbridge Aquatics in Wilmore, Ky. before making the move to Stockton, California where he was an Assistant Coach at the University of Pacific and the Head Age Group Coach at Tiger Aquatics.
He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration and a minor in Physical Education.
