DANVILLE, Ky. - Five program records were broken for the Midway women's swim team at the three-day Speedo Invitational, hosted by Centre College over the weekend.
The Eagles finished in ninth place behind six top-10 finishes, including a pair of top-three showings from
Josie Briner.
Briner was second in the 200-yard butterfly and third in the 100 butterfly, setting program records in each. She swam a 2:10.84 in the 200 and 58.21 in the 100.
Briner also set a school record with a 15th-place swim of 5:25.36 in the 500 free, and teamed with
Kaelynn Martin,
Sydney Eastman and
Elizabeth Dolberry for a record-setting, 10th-place swim of 1:41.03 in the 200 free relay.
Martin also got a top-10 and a program record in backstroke events. Martin was sixth in a minute flat in the 100 then swam a program-best time of 2:11.81 in the 200, where she finished 11th.
Elsewhere in the top-10, Eastman was eighth in the 200 butterfly in 2:16.65, and the 800 free relay team of Briner, Eastman,
Pamela Ramires and Martin with 10th in 8:12.53.
The Eagles won't be in competition again for almost seven weeks, the next meet a scheduled dual at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. on Jan. 10.
