Box Score 2 GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- After losing their last four matches, the Midway women's volleyball team bounced back on Thursday (Sept. 28) when they snapped a four-match losing skid and got back in the win column.
Midway, who had only hit over .200 once in their last four matches, returned to form on Thursday, posting a season-high .376 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 victory (25-19,25-23, 25-18).
With the win, Coach Mang's squad improves to 6-6, while Georgetown falls to 6-15 overall following the loss.
The Eagles put down 39 kills and committed just seven errors in their 85 swings. The Tigers had two more kills than the visitors, but committed 18 miscues in their 101 attempts, leading to a .228 attacking clip.
Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) put down back-to-back kills and Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) added one of her own to fuel a 7-1 run that saw Midway take a 10-3 lead in the first set. The Eagles would notch a .632 hitting mark in the first set to claim the 1-0 lead with a 25-19 win.
The second frame was tight from the start, but Midway created separation after getting back-to-back kills by Koester and Tori Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) to grab a 22-18 edge. The Tigers fought off one set point, but a service error gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after winning the set 25-23.
The Eagles scored the first three points of the third set and never looked back. With the set tied at 12, Midway went on a 6-0 run behind the serve of Kylie Kohrs (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and would cruise to a 25-18 win in the set to clinch the 3-0 victory.
Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.) led the offensive attack with 10 kills in 13 swings for a .769 hitting percentage. Sugiya and Nyla Gaines (Lexington, Ky.) added seven and six kills while hitting .500 and .556, respectively.
Katherine Rodriguez Ortiz (Fajardo, Puerto Rico) and Koester split time running the offense dishing out 15 assists apiece. Koester added eight digs to her stat line, while Kohrs and Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.) carded nine and seven digs, respectively.
Midway will have a quick turnaround as they get set to host IU East (Ind.) on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
