Offense stalls as men's soccer drops seventh straight

Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. - Just 28 seconds after being re-inserted into the lineup, Jaime Gayol made the play of the game, scoring a breakaway goal to secure Saint Mary of the Woods (Ind.) a 1-0 win over Midway in a men's soccer defensive slugfest Saturday.

A starter who was benched to start the second half, Gayol immediately turned things his team's way when he ran past the Eagle defense to score what proved to be the game's lone goal in the 55th minute. It was one of just two shots on goal the Pomeroys had.

The Midway offense failed to get anything going, but had a great opportunity to tie the game in the 66th minute. But unfortunately, Anwar Perry's shot attempt rolled too far and bounced off the right post.

It was the seventh straight loss for the 1-8 Eagles, who are now 0-3 in River States Conference. They will try to snap the streak when the begin at three-game road stretch at Oakland City (Ind.) Thursday.
