Cougars pull away from Eagles in holiday men's soccer matchup

Box Score

CENTERVILLE, Ind. - St. Francis (Ind.) proved too strong on both ends of the pitch Monday, as the Cougars out-shot Midway 19-1 in the final 60 minutes and 47 seconds of a 4-0 win on the final day of the IU East Labor Day Soccer Weekend Tournament.

The Eagles actually held a 4-3 shot advantage 21 minutes into the game, but struggled to find a rhythm the rest of the way, as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead into halftime on an Alessandro Florencia goal in the 34th minute.

Florencia and teammate Dalton Blankenbaker then opened the floodgates early in the second half, scoring goals just 51 seconds apart to help secure an unbeaten weekend of play for their team.

The Eagles, who earned a weekend split following a 2-1 win over in-state opponent Pikeville Saturday, fall to 1-2 on the season. A tough challenge awaits in a home opener Thursday, when Midway hosts 2-0 Union (Ky.) at 4 p.m.
