Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - After taking two furious haymakers in the opening four minutes, the Midway men's soccer team battled back the rest of the way before ultimately falling 3-1 to a very good Union (Ky.) team in its home opener Thursday.
The Bulldogs came out on fire, with a pair of Callums scoring in the first 3 minutes, 19 seconds. Callum Edwards scored 99 seconds in on a header off a great corner kick pass by Biel Vallverdu, then Callum Longworth found the back of the net just 1:40 later.
But the Eagles would hold Union off for more than 75 minutes, led by a great effort in goal by Tyler Glass, whose nine saves were the second most he's had in a Midway uniform.
They even cut the initial deficit in half on a Jacob Smith goal in the 25th minute, before Union finally put the game away with 12:10 remaining on a goal by Augusto Salomao.
With the loss, Midway falls to 1-3 on the season. The Eagles are back home Sunday for another in-state, non-conference title, this one against Asbury at 3:30 p.m.
