Women's soccer records record-breaking blowout of Alice Lloyd

MIDWAY, Ky. - The Midway women's soccer team had arguably the best offensive game in program history Tuesday, crushing in-state opponent Alice Lloyd 16-0 in a non-conference match up.

Records on file for the program only go back to the 2008 season, but in that time period, the Eagles set new single-game marks for goals, shots (77), goals in a half (11), assists (11) and players with goals (10).

The shot total was 20 more than the previous high mark set in a Sept. 9, 2008 game against Kentucky Christian. In that same game, the Eagles also recorded a previous post-2007 record nine assists.

Individually, Anna Kneisley tied the single-game mark in that time with four assists, equaling a previous high set by Larissa Cussins in an Oct. 31, 2017 game against Salem International.

Kneisley assisted on the game's first three goals, scored by Haylee ApplegateLyla Khanthachack and Evie Clare. Her fourth and final assist was the unofficial record-breaking 10th of the game, coming on a second goal by Applegate in the 61st minute.

Kylie Hudgins and Anna Kessinger, who had three combined goals at Midway coming into the day, both had hat tricks, with each scoring three goals in a row.

Hudgins' first goals as an Eagle came in rapid-fire succession, as she scored thrice in a 51-second stretch in the first half. Kessinger scored the 11th and final goal of the first half, then scored twice in 28 seconds in the second.

Kessinger's last two goals came on two of the three assists distributed by Clare, while Khanthachack added a second goal in the 21st minute.

Other Eagle goals were netted by Mariana Casey (22nd minute), Nadia Meeks (27th), Zoe Sparks (29th), Maggie Sauer (59th) and Isis Vineyard (84th). Meeks, Sparks and Vineyard all scored the first goals of their college career.

Applegate, Morgan Harper and Jameela Shalash added assists.

Midway did all this without allowing a single shot, as keepers Caylee Thompson and Ellis Kerns combined to touch the ball just three times.

Back to .500 at 4-4-1 overall, the Eagles return to River States Conference play when they host Oakland City at 1 p.m. Thursday. Midway is looking for its first conference win after tying West Virginia Tech 2-2 in its league opener last Saturday.
