Men's soccer plays first tie in four years vs. Brescia

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway out-shout Brescia 18-4 in the second half, but was unable to deliver a winning shot in a 1-1 tie in River States Conference men's soccer action Saturday.

It was the Eagles' first tie since a 2-2 final against Ohio Christian on Oct. 24, 2020.

Trailing 1-0 at the half thanks to a Katai Mukuka goal in the seventh minute, the Midway offense had perhaps its most aggressive half in the second, but struggled to take advantage, as Bearcat keeper Pau Gelabert recorded nine saves.

There was one shot Gelabert didn't stop came in the 64th minute, when Andy Alfaro scored off an assist by Karl Shand Jr.. It was the second-straight game Alfaro made a critical play late, as he assisted on Jared Bastin's game-winner against Trevecca Nazarene Thursday.

Despite their dominance, the Eagles dodged a major bullet in the final minute, as Mukuka got an open look but sailed it just left of an open net.

The Eagles are now 4-7-1 on the year with a 1-2-1 mark in the RSC.

They host Rio Grande at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
