VENORE Tenn. - Midway men's golf took a major step up in competition this weekend, placing 10th at a Bojangles Invitational featuring five teams ranked in the NAIA top-25.
In sixth-placed after day one Saturday, the Eagles struggled with a 26-over-par score of 314 Sunday. They finished the tournament with a +53 score of 916.
In a field featuring top-ranked and defending national champion Dalton State (Ga.), Coastal Georgia dominated with a one-under, three-round score of 863, 17 shots ahead of Dalton State.
Jack Bedell had Midway's best score, tying for 18th with a three-day tally of 223 (+7). Bedell overcame a shaky start with a a two-under par score of 70 in round two, a 10-stroke improvement from the opening round. He also had Midway's best score on Sunday, shooting a 73.
In 22nd place, Caden Less was two strokes behind Bedell for the tournament, topping out with a -1 score of 71 in the second round Saturday.
Gage Gregory, who also shot a two-under par in round two, finished 27th over three rounds with a 229 (+13). Benjamin Spencer completed Midway's scoring with a 232 (+16), while Tristan Mitchell was one shot behind in 37th.
Midway, which has received votes in each of the last two NAIA national polls, have one more tournament remaining this fall. The Eagles will take part in the Firehawk Invitational in Athens, Ala. on Oct. 28-29.
