COLUMBIA, Ky. - Playing in another difficult field, the Midway men's golf team was able to put together some of the best performances in team history at the Lindsey Wilson Spring Invitational.
The Eagles, who are currently receiving votes
in the NAIA national rankings, finished fifth out of seven teams with a three-round, five-over par score of 857 at the two-day event that concluded on Saturday.
No. 11 Lindsey Wilson earned the win with an 821 (-31), 16 shots better than runner-up Campbellsville.
Midway's three-round score was the third-best in program history. The previous record of 847 was recorded at the same course, the Pines at Lindsey WIlson,
during the Blue Raider Invitational on Sept. 20-21, 2021.
And with their three-under par score of 281 in the second round Friday, the Eagles tied for the third-best single-round in program history. It was topped only by scores of 279 and 280 in rounds one and two at the 2021 Blue Raider Invitational.
Kobe Ingram and
Tristan Mitchell were Midway's top performers, as they were two of seven players to tie for 14th with an even-par 213.Â
Ingram, competing as an individual, had rounds of 72, 70 and 71, which included an eagle on the par-five fourth hole in round two. Mitchell recorded an eagle on the same hole in round three and shot a three-under 69 in the opening round.
One shot behind them in a tie for 21st
was reigning River States Conference Golfer of the Week
Gage Gregory, while
Eli Stamper was one shot behind Gregory in a tie for 24th.
Gregory and Stamper tied for the best individual rounds for Midway with a 68 (-4). Gregory got his in round two, while Stamper, who had two eagles during the weekend, got it in round three.
Elsewhere,
Hunter Graham tied for 28th with a 218 (+5),
Gabe Cole tied for 37th at 223 (+10),
Benjamin Spencer tied for 43rd with 226 (+13) and
Jackson Whitaker was 45th with a 227 (+14).
Next up will be the annual Midway Eagle Invitational, which for the first time will be played at the Woodford Club in Versailles.Â
