DANIELS, W. Va. - Gage Gregory will enter the final day of the River States Conference Men's Golf Championships in a tie for first place, while the Midway men are currently three shots off the lead through two rounds.
Gregory and Oakland City's Jose Vidal are both two-under par at 142 through two rounds, eight strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Meanwhile, just four shots separate the top-four teams.
Aided by an eagle by Noah Mulford on the par-five 18th hole, Indiana East jumped into the top spot with two-day, 42-over par score of 618. Midway and Rio Grande are three strokes off the lead in a tie for second at 621, while fourth-place Oakland City has a 622.
Things proved tougher for most everyone on Monday, as each of the top-six teams had worse scores than they did
on the opening round Sunday. Midway's 316 (+28) was 11 shots higher than its Sunday score while the overall team average jumped from 318 to 324.
One player who was steady was Gregory, who duplicated his one-under par 71 from the first day. He added two eagles to his score card, getting them on the par-five fifth hole and the par-four 10th.
In a tie for 16th was
Eli Stamper, who is currently at a 159 (+15).
Tristan Mitchell was two strokes back of him in a tie for 23rd,
Gabe Cole was one shot behind Mitchell in a tie for 25th and
Hunter Graham tied for 30th with a 164.
The Eagles, who came back from seven strokes down
to win the River States Conference Championship on the final day of last season's tournament, will look to make another day-three surge when play commences on Tuesday morning.
