MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway looked primed for a win after a dominant first set, only for Boyce to respond by winning the next three, coming to Marshall Gymnasium and topping the Eagles 12-25, 27-25, 25-15, 25-14 Tuesday night.
The Eagles hit .633 in the opening set and rode a four-kill, three-service ace performance by Aubry Koester to a convincing win.
But the Bulldogs, the No. 1-ranked team in the National Christian College Athletic Association, played with the confidence fitting of their high ranking, gutting out a tight second set before dominating the last two.
Midway appeared to be on the cusp of a big comeback by fighting off four set points. Down 26-25, the Eagles then made three impressive diving stops on a marathon point, only for setter Elyse Rau to make a perfect pass to Olivia Rau for the clinching point.
The Raus were the driving force for Boyce's success all night. Olivia had a team-high 18 kills, several coming off of Elyse's monster 41 assist night.
The Bulldogs hit .345 or better in each of the final three sets, while the Eagles hit no better than .147 after their blazing start at the net.
Koester tied for a match-best 18 kills while she and Kylie Kohrs had a team-high three service aces.
Marinna Liedle had 23 assists and Blair Riney had 13 digs for the 9-11 Eagles, who return to River States Conference play Friday, with a 7 p.m. road match at Indiana Southeast.
