COLUMBUS, Ind. - Two goals in a 2-minute, 21-second stretch proved to be enough offense for the Midway men's soccer team, which captured its first River States Conference win of the season 2-1 at Indiana Columbus Saturday night.
Henry Alvor had a hand in both goals, scoring one unassisted in the 22nd minute, then assisting on one scored by Anwar Perry in the 25th, allowing the Eagles to go into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.
IUC, which held a slight 16-14 shot advantage, made things interesting when a Gideon Adegbeminiyi goal in the 69th minute cut the deficit in half.
But in a highly chippy game that 23 fouls, seven yellow cards and three ejections, Midway goalie Connor Vincent was able to keep the Crimson Pride off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Vincent finished the night with nine saves.
Now 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the RSC, the Eagles' next three games will be at home, starting with a 3:30 p.m. meeting with Trevecca, an NCAA Division-II opponent out of Nashville on Wednesday.
