MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway looked out of sorts for much of the afternoon, as Shawnee State came to Marshall Gymnasium and earned a 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 sweep in a Saturday River States Conference women's volleyball match.
The Eagles had their best stretch in the first set when a 6-0 run gave them a 12-9 lead.
The momentum wouldn't last long though, as a Midway attack error put Shawnee State ahead 15-14, and the only time the Bears trailed the rest of the afternoon was at 1-0 in the third set.
Shawnee State was particularly strong at the net in the second set, recording six blocks, four of them courtesy of Haidyn Wamsley.
Anju Sugiya had 16 digs, while Marinna Liedle added 15 assist for Midway, which drops to 7-7 overall with a 2-3 mark in the RSC.
The Eagles will try to regroup Tuesday, when they travel for an in-state conference match against Alice Lloyd at 7 p.m.
