BECKLEY, W.V. - Three close matches all went West Virginia Tech's way, as the Golden Bears topped Midway 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 in a River States Conference women's volleyball match Friday night.
The Eagles held late leads in the second and third sets. They jumped ahead a 21-17 on an Emily Slaughter kill, before WVU Tech responded by scoring four straight points to tie it up. Midway then held a 23-22 lead, but followed that up with a service error and a decisive 3-0 run.
Another Slaughter kill gave the Eagles a 21-20 edge in the third set, but that gave way to back-to-back attack errors, as the Bears didn't trail again while completing to sweep.
Slaughter and Aubry Koester had 10 kills apiece. Slaughter also made 13 digs, second on the team to Blair Riney's 17.
Marinna Liedle and Lindsey Whitehouse had 14 and 13 assists respectively for Midway, which falls to 11-14 overall and 6-6 in the RSC.
The Eagles close out the regular season with three road matches next week, starting with a 7 p.m. tilt against Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday.
