PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Big rallies in each sets proved key as Shawnee State swept Midway 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 in a River States Conference women's volleyball match Tuesday.
A trend was set right away, as the Bears put together a 7-1 run to pull away after Midway held an early 13-11 lead in the first set.
The Bears then scored 11 of the final 14 points in the second set, and after an Aubry Koester kill put the Eagles ahead 9-8 in the third, Shawnee State went on a 7-0 surge and never trailed again.
Koester finished with 12 kills and tied Blair Riney for the team lead with 15 digs. Marinna Liedle (12) and Lindsey Whitehouse (11) both had 11 digs for Midway.
Still looking to get a spot in the RSC Tournament, the Eagles, who are 6-8 in league play, have two more critical road matches to end the season.
They are at Rio Grande at 7 p.m. Friday and Indiana East at 2 p.m. Saturday.
