MIDWAY, Ky. - Six members of the Midway sprint football team earned all-conference recognition by the Midwest Sprint Football League Thursday, with
Quintel Thomas,
Peyton Brazier and
Gavin Lay all getting First-Team honors.
Thomas, a running back, was a revelation during his freshman season, rushing for a program-record 504 yards in just five games with four touchdowns.
He also set the single-game program records for rushing yards (
144 vs. Bellarmine) and scored the longest offensive touchdown in Midway history
with a 71-yard score in a postseason game against St. Mary of the Woods.
Brazier and Lay made it after pacing the Eagle linebacker corps throughout the season.
Brazier led the Eagles with 43 tackles and a program-record 12 tackles for loss, while also recording 3.5 sacks, the second-most on the team. Lay finished with 34 tackles and was second on the team with seven tackles for loss.
Elsewhere,
Preston Moore and
Chase Williams made the Second-Team on both offense and special teams, while
Trenton Leach and
Aiden Weatherholt were Second-Team honorees on defense.
Williams led Midway with 283 yards and three touchdowns receiving, while Moore was second on the team with 210 yards and two scores.
Williams added 273 yards and a touchdown in the return game and finished the year with a team-high 563 yards from scrimmage. Moore recorded 1,449 yards as the team's punter, placing 14 kicks inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
Leach finished 2024 with 27 tackles, while his four sacks tied a previous single-season program record set by Brazier in 2023. Weatherholt, a freshman linebacker, had 17 tackles and a sack in five games.
Brazier was also one of two Eagles to be named an MSFL Champion of Character. The other honoree was junior offensive lineman
Zechariah McGahan.
