Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball team drops road matchup at Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen jumped out to a 21-point lead in the second half and Midway was unable to complete a furious comeback try, losing 107-96 in a non-conference men's basketball matchup Monday night.

The Eagles, who led 7-2 early, pulled ahead for the last time on a Robbie Henry jumper that gave them a 9-8 lead. But just eight seconds later, Richard Wilson connected on a 3-pointer that started a 10-0 run that took place over a 1-minute, 35-second stretch.

The Maple Leafs looked primed for a blowout when another Wilson 3-pointer put them ahead 71-50 with 15:55 remaining. But Midway was able to make a game of it, a rally starting after Amari Wales hit an 18-foot jumper on the ensuing possession.

That began 24-4 run over the next 5:25, with Wales leading the charge, where he scored nine of his game-high 27 points. The deficit dropped to 78-74 on a Miguel Shaw jumper with 10:13 to play.

Midway would again make it a four-point game, 85-81, with 8:08 remaining on a 3-pointer by Decoreio Smith, but would get no closer. With just under five minutes to play, DJ Bryant hit a triple to stretch the lead back to double-digits, 93-83, and Goshen proceeded to put the game away.

The Maple Leafs finished the night with 14 made 3s on 30 attempts.

Wales was one of four Eagles to score in double figures. Smith finished with 16 points, Shaw and Jalen Cincore each had 14 and Isaiah Francis finished with 11.

Shaw led the team with eight rebounds and Henry dished six assists for the 3-5 Eagles, who will travel to Willamsburg, Ky. for an 11 a.m. matchup against 9-4 Cumberlands Wednesday.
