Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vincent shines as men's soccer earns first win of Brett Morris era

BEREA, Ky. - Midway's men's soccer team survived a 30-minute weather delay and keeper Connor Vincent survived a persistent Berea offensive attack, earning interim head coach Brett Morris his first collegiate win with a 3-0 shutout of Berea on Friday.

In a game that didn't start until 8 p.m. due to a lightning storm, the Eagle offense got contributions from two unlikely sources, as Sedrick Rugwiro scored in the 32nd minute before Ben Banton converted a header in the 67th.

Both third-year players, it was the first goal of Rugwiro's Midway career and the second of Banton's.

The Eagles then got an insurance goal in the 87th minute by Anwar Perry, who scored in an almost identical timeframe in a 2-1 season-opening loss to Pikeville Tuesday.

The offense was supported by a career night from sophomore Vincent, who recorded a 10-save shutout.

It was Vincent's fourth shutout at Midway and by far his most prolific. In the previous three, he had nine combined saves.

Now 1-1 on the season, the Eagles have another non-conference road mathcup on Wednesday when they travel to face a Union team currently receiving votes in the NAIA rankings. Wednesday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
