BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - A very good Union team proved too much for Midwqy on Wednesdday, as the Eagles fell 5-0 in a non-conference men's soccer game.
Union was No. 23 in the NAIA preseason poll and is currently receiving votes in said poll. From the outset, it was evident that Midway was up against a formidable opponent.
Union Commonwealth's relentless offensive pressure resulted in an early goal from Isa Bramble in the 11th minute, assisted by Callum Edwards and Tyler Wheatcroft.
The Eagles' defense, which had hoped to contain the Bulldogs' attacking threats, was breached again by Charlie Markland. His first-half hat-trick, which included goals in the 21th, 34th, and 35th minutes.
The Bulldog defense was even better, as the Eagles didn't get their first shot off until the 67th minute and had just one shot on goal
Goalkeeper Connor Vincent stayed busy. Coming off a River States Conference Defensive Player of the Week, he finished with seven saves.
Midway's next game will be the home opener on Tuesday, September 10th, at 4 p.m. against Georgetown College.
