LIMA, Ohio - On a record-shattering day for both Midway golf programs, men's senior standout Hayes Mason may have stood tallest.

Mason broke Eagle single-round and two-round scoring records and took a commanding lead on day one of the University of Northwestern Ohio Fall Invitational and helped the Eagles close the day on top of the team standings.

Midway finished with a two-round, 11-under par score of 565, one shot better than host UNOH. No other team shot better than 18-over par over two rounds.

Mason is currently eight strokes clear of the rest of the field after shooting a minus-11, 133. That is four strokes better than the previous two-round program record of 137, which Mason himself set at the Midway Eagle Invitational on April 4-5, 2022.

His day got off to a great start with a 65 (-7) in the opening round, the best single round ever shot by an Eagle. The previous best mark of 66 was hit three times, twice by Logan Conn (2020 and 21) and once by Elliot Smith (2021).

Mason was a model of consistency, recording 12 birdies to just two bogeys, while also recording an opening-round eagle on the par-five fourth hole.

He now has a great shot of also breaking his own three-round record of 207, which he set at the Blue Raider Invitational on Sept. 20-21, 2021.

Gage Gregory also enters the final round in the top five, finishing the day tied for third with a 142 (-2). Tristan Mitchell is tied for eighth with an even-par 144 while Benjamin Spencer completed the scoring in 15th with a +2, 146.

The Eagles will look to hold off a Racer team that received votes in the preseason NAIA poll in Sunday's final round. Play begins at 8 a.m.
