DEFIANCE, Ohio. - Midway shook off a disappointing performance on Thursday, dominating wire-to-wire in a 6-0 women's soccer road win at Defiance (Ohio) Saturday.

After losing 4-1 at Union their last time out, the Eagles overwhelmed the Yellow Jackets from the start, finishing with a 34-5 shot advantage.

Haylee Applegate led the way with two goals and an assist. She scored a goal off a Cameron Banfield pass in the 12th minute and a Mariana Casey pass in the 54th. She also got an assist on an Anna Kessinger goal that helped lift Midway to a 3-0 halftime lead.

Maggie Sauer also had a goal and an assist to Anna Kneisley in the first half. Evie Clare added an unassisted score in the 54th minute.

Freshman keeper Ellis Kerns faced just two shots on goal, but saved them both, earning her second shutout in three career starts for the 2-1 Eagles.

Midway will now have 11 days off before its next game, a home opener against in-state foe Asbury at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.
