Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer drops tight game on late goal at Transy

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Just five minutes away from securing a tie, the Midway defense gave up a late goal and wasn't able to respond in a 2-1 men's soccer loss to Transy in Lexington Wednesday night.

Despite having just three shots on goal the entire game, the Eagles made one of them count.

Just 4 minutes, 38 seconds after the Pioneers had taken a 1-0 lead, Midway answered back when Anwar Perry made a great, cross-field pass that landed right at the foot of Sedrick Rugwiro, who pushed the ball past Transy keeper Jackson Holt in the 62nd minute.

The score stayed tied for nearly 25 minutes before a corner kick set the Pioneers up for the game-winner. Following a re-direct, McKay Wheatley weaved through traffic and made a great pass to a cutting Henry Roetker, who booted home the winning goal with 5:02 to play.

The Eagles attempted to answer, with Perry even getting a shot on goal just over a minute later, but Holt made the save and the Eagles were unable to answer, falling to 2-4 on the season.

Midway gets a week off before hosting Campbellsville (Ky.) next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
