MIDWAY, Ky. - An aggressive and fast Campbellsville team suffocated Midway on both ends of the field, as the Tigers earned a 5-1 men's soccer win over the Eagles Wednesday afternoon.
Gustav Oskarsson got things started by scoring two goals in a 1-minute, 27-second stretch in the first half. The Tigers, who entered the day with eight players having scored multiple goals on the season, then got three more scores from three different players.
Midway's only two shots of the entire game came in rapid succession in the second half, with the second producing a goal.
After a Sedrick Rugwiro penalty kick attempts was saved, a charging Tomas Sarmiento tapped in a putback. Now in his third year at Midway, it was Sarmiento's first goal as an Eagle.
Now 2-5, Midway begins the River States Conference portion of its schedule Saturday when it hosts defending RSC champion West Virginia Tech at approximately 2:30 p.m. It will immediately follow a game between the Eagle and Golden Bear women's teams, which begins at noon.
