MIDWAY, Ky. - Defending River States Conference champion West Virginia Tech held Midway to just one shot on goal and pulled away for a 4-0 win in the Eagles' River States Conference opener Saturday.
The Eagle defense held strong, allowing just one goal on an assortment of Golden Bear attacks in the first half.
But that lead would be doubled just 53 seconds into the second half on a goal by Lorenzo Grispello and the Tech defense prevented a shot on goal until the 87th minute.
Connor Vincent recorded 13 saves for the Eagles, who fall to 2-6 overall. Midway is just 1-7-1 all time in conference openers.
The Eagles have two more conference games next weeks, starting with a 3:30 p.m. game against Oakland City on Thursday.
