MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway had its highest credited shot total in over 16 years, as the Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg in women's soccer Friday.
Having just 10 players make the trip and losing one to injury once play started, the Pioneers still kept the game scoreless through the first half despite Midway getting off 34 shots in that time. Keeper Madison Teague had 13 saves in the first 45 minutes.
But in a second half shortened to 25 minutes, the Eagle offense finally broke through.
Cameron Banfield scored her first goal of the season on a Haylee Applegate assist in the 67th minute before Applegate got a goal of her own 32 seconds later.
The scoring was capped by Evie Clare, who score twice in a four-and-a-half minute stretch, the first of goal coming after she made two great, ankle-breaking moves to avoid Pioneer defenders.
Midway finished with 47 shots to Harrodsburg's zero.
The 47 shots tied for the most an Eagle team has had since firing 57 in a 9-1 win over Kentucky Christian on Sept. 2, 2008. Midway also 47 shots against KCU on Sept. 22, 2018, a game it also won 4-0.
Friday was also Midway's first ever win on its new, on-campus turf field. The Eagles have eight days off before opening River States Conference play against West Virginia Tech at noon on Sept. 28.
