Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's volleyball picks up first RSC win at IUC

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Midway women's volleyball team rebounded from a tough opening loss in conference play with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23 road win against River States foe Indiana Columbus on Friday night.

After splitting the first two sets, Midway trailed for just two of the match's remaining points, leading by as much as nine (21-12) in the third set.

The Eagles led by the same margin at 15-6 in set four, though the Crimson Pride would make them sweat out the final points. Starting with a Midway service error, IUC would score eight of the next 10 points and eventually battle all the way back to tie the set at 23, following a kill by Addison Lemon and an attack error.

But the Crimson Pride, who had negative hitting percentages in two of four sets, were done in by two more attack errors, which provided Midway with the clinching points.

Aubry Koester and Emily Slaughter both recorded double-digit kills and digs. Koester led all players with 15 kills and led the Eagles with 16 digs, while Slaughter added 13 and 12 respectively.

Paige Miles and Marinna Liedle continued to split assists, with Miles recording 22, Liedle 19. Anju Sugiya and Blair Riney both added 14 digs, with Slaughter and Meghan Adams finishing with three blocks.

Now 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the RSC, Midway will take a break from conference play with consecutive matches against Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Campbellsville game will begin at 7 p.m. at Marshall Gymnasium in Midway.
