DANIELS, W.V. - While the path to get there was shorter than usual, the Midway women's golf team found itself in a very familiar position at the end of the River States Conference Fall Preview.
Behind a medalist performance by Kasey Cameron, the Eagles captured their fifth-consecutive Fall Preview title Tuesday.
When weather forced the cancelation of the final nine holes, the Eagles held an eight stroke lead over St. Mary of the Woods and a nine-stroke edge over Indiana East. Midway finished the two-day, three-round tournament with a 40-over-par score of 472.
Cameron added a new highlight moment to what has already been a great start to her first college campaign, finishing with a +5 score of 213. Entering the day with a five-stroke lead, she held off the charge of St. Mary of the Woods' Ranae Jaeger, who finished two strokes off the lead.
This marks the second-straight year the Eagles have had the tournament medalist, with Cameron following up Payton Schechter's victory a year ago.
Three other Midway players also finished in the top-10, with Maryssa Phillips landing in the top-five. Phillips, who tied for eighth at last year's Fall Preview, was fourth this year with a +10 score of 118.
Competing as an individual, Sophie Lester tied for sixth with a 120 (+12), with Bree Smith two shots behind in a tie for eighth.
Savannah Salchli completed the scoring in 14th place with a 124 (+16), while individual Anna New tied for 17th with a 126 (+18). Kelsey Collins was 20th with a 130 (+22) adn Cameron Allen 29th with a 137 (+29)
The Eagles now have over a month off before playing their final tournament of the fall, traveling for the Firehawk Invitational in Athens, Ala. Oct. 28-29.
