MIDWAY, Ky. — Midway University and Clark's Pump-N-Shop have teamed up to honor one male and one female student-athlete each week as the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Athletes of the Week.
The weekly award recognizes the outstanding performances of one male and one female Midway student-athlete. Winners are selected by the department's head coaches based on their performances from the previous week and are announced each Monday morning on the Midway Athletics website and social media platforms.
"Clark's Pump-N-Shop is proud to be the sponsor of the Midway University Athletes of the Week for both men's and women's sports," said Rick Clark, co-owner of Clark's Pump-N-Shop.
Caique Nunes Maia takes home Male Athlete of the Week honors after an impressive performance in the swimming team's first meet of the season. Maia finished first in all four events in which he competed: the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. His performance helped Midway defeat WVU Tech for the first time in the program's seven-year history. Maia is a sophomore from Vinhedo, São Paulo, Brazil, majoring in business administration with a concentration in leadership.
The reigning River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview champion is this week's Female Athlete of the Week. Anna Simpson shot just 3-over-par across two rounds at last week's tournament in West Virginia, capturing her first individual collegiate championship. Simpson has been a consistent performer for the Eagles throughout the season, continuing to build on her strong play. The sophomore from Bloomfield, Ky., majors in marketing communication with a concentration in graphic design.
